How often should I test hot tub water?

Twice a week as a minimum, always on a fresh strip. Add a test after every shock, every refill and every party.

Can I use pool test strips on a hot tub?

As long as the strip covers the same readings, yes. At a minimum a hot tub needs free chlorine or bromine, pH, alkalinity and hardness.

Do test strips expire?

They do. Once the foil is opened, accuracy tails off after 6 to 12 months, so write the open date on the pot.

Is a digital tester more accurate than a strip?

A photometer reads to a decimal place, which is finer, but for day-to-day home use a fresh Zagosa strip is precise enough to dose from with confidence.
